When do we use the second conditional?

The second conditional is used to talk about the hypothetical consequences of future events that are used unlikely, improbable, impossible or unrealistic. It is in the opinion of the speake.

Form: If +past simple , past future with would

Example  If I had wings , I would fly around the would .

I won the lottery , I would help to poverty .

We can use Could and Might .

Ex. If you had some money , you could visit Angkor Wat.

If she had some money , she might buy new car.

We also use Wish and if only to show that we want to change event in the future .

Form: wish + would

and If only + would / could

I wish that boy would do this work properly.

If only he would answer the phone , but it just keeps ringing !

If only the neighbor wouldn't make so much noise .

Wish + past and If only +past to show that we want to change events in the present .

I wish all things didn't cost so much . If only that man did his work properly , we would not have to do the work all over again now.
